ژانر شهری (City / Urban) و شاخهٔ خاص آن، «سمفونی شهر»، در طبقه‌بندی سینمایی علیرضا کاوه ژانری «ریتم–ازدحام–نظم/بی‌نظمی» است؛ جایی که شهر نه پس‌زمینهٔ خنثی، بلکه «بدنی زنده» با ریتم، ترافیک، نور، سایه، انباشت، فاصله، شتاب و تنهایی است. در این ژانر، شهر یک شخصیت است: نفس می‌کشد، می‌لرزد، تاریک می‌شود، می‌درخشد، و حرکت انسان در دل آن، معنا پیدا می‌کند. «سمفونی شهر» گونه‌ای است که از دوران سینمای صامت شکل گرفت و شهر را به‌عنوان یک ارکستر بصری–زمانی نشان داد: ریتم ماشین‌ها، قطارها، کارگران، خیابان‌ها، پنجره‌ها، پل‌ها، و جریان زندگی روزمره.

In Alireza Kaveh’s cinematic taxonomy, the City/Urban genre—and its historic branch, the “City Symphony”—is a genre of “rhythm–crowd–order/disorder.” The city is not a neutral backdrop; it is a living body with rhythm, traffic, light, shadow, density, distance, acceleration, and isolation. Here, the city becomes a character—breathing, trembling, darkening, glowing— and human movement within it gains meaning. The City Symphony, emerging in silent cinema, presents the city as a visual and temporal orchestra: the rhythms of machines, trains, workers, streets, windows, bridges, and the flow of everyday life.
