Ashes and Diamonds, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days,
A Short Film About Love, Three Colors: Blue,

No Man’s Land, and The Turin Horse.
Alireza Kaveh’s Essay
Alireza Kaveh’s essay,
“Non-Adjacency: A Reading of Krzysztof Kieślowski’s
Three Colors: Red”, examines the hidden connections between
characters who appear to be separated in space, experience, and
narrative.
Focusing on the concept of non-adjacency, the essay studies the role
of sound and music in Kieślowski’s cinema. It considers the director’s
collaboration with composer Zbigniew Preisner and demonstrates how
music becomes an active part of cinematic narration rather than a
mere accompaniment to the image.
In this reading, Three Colors: Red is not simply the story
of several individual characters. It is a film about distance,
coincidence, parallel lives, and the invisible relations that connect
human beings. The essay also discusses Kieślowski’s importance in the
development of fragmented, parallel, and episodic storytelling in
contemporary cinema.
